Four simple methods to identify irradiated cross-linked low smoke halogen free flame retardant wires and cables:
1. Product name identification method
Wire - low smoke halogen-free flame retardant cross-linked polyolefin insulated wire and cable (WDZ-BYJ);
Cable -- XLPE insulated low smoke halogen free flame retardant polyolefin sheathed power cable (WDZ-YJE). Imitations are usually named a little differently.
2, skin burning method
If the insulation layer is ironed with the electric iron, there should be no obvious dent. If there is a large dent, it means that the material or process used for the insulation layer is defective.
Or use a lighter to barbecue, under normal circumstances should be not easy to ignite, after a long time of combustion, the insulation layer of the cable is still relatively complete, there is no smoke and pungant smell, and the diameter has increased. If it ignites easily, make sure that the insulation of the cable is not made of a low smoke and halogen-free material (most likely polyethylene or crosslinked polyethylene).
If there is a large smoke, it means that the insulation layer is using non-low smoke materials. If after a long time of combustion, the insulation surface falls off seriously and the diameter does not increase significantly, it means that the appropriate crosslinking process is not carried out.

3, hot water immersion method
Put the core wire or cable in 90 ℃ hot water immersion, insulation resistance will not normally fell sharply and keep above 0.1 M Ω / Km. Ω such as insulation resistance fell sharply even less than 0.009 M/Km, then without proper crosslinking process. (Polyethylene or XLPE insulation materials are not suitable for identification by this method, and can be identified by the method in Article 2 above).
4. Density contrast method
The density of low-smoke halogen-free material is generally higher than that of water. A little insulating layer can be stripped off and put into water. If it floats above the water, it is certainly not low-smoke halogen-free material.
Irradiated cross-linked low smoke halogen free flame retardant wires and cables have been widely recognized by electricians and electrical appliance practitioners for their excellent comprehensive electrical and physical properties, and have been applied in subway, tunnel, supermarket, doctor and other landmark buildings, showing a good market prospect.
However, it is worrisome that some imitation or even fake products have been found in recent years, which seriously threatens the quality and image of key construction projects.
